Bhaav

“Bhaav” refers to the emotional expression or mood conveyed through the music. It is an important aspect of the performance, as the musician must use various techniques such as melody, rhythm, and dynamics to evoke the intended emotion. Bhaav can range from joy and love to sadness and longing, and is an essential element in creating a powerful and moving musical experience for the listener.

Raag

Raag refers to the melodic framework used in Indian classical music. In Bharatanatyam, the dancer uses the Raag to express the mood or emotion of the dance. The Raag is typically played on a stringed instrument like the veena or violin, and it sets the tone for the dance. The dancer must have a thorough understanding of the Raag to match their movements and expressions with the music.

Taal

Taal, also known as Taal, is the rhythmic pattern or beat used in Indian classical music. In Bharatanatyam, the dancer must synchronize their movements with the Tall. The Tall is typically played on percussion instruments like the mridangam or tabla, and it sets the rhythm for the dance. The dancer must have a good sense of rhythm and timing to match their movements with the Tall.

Mudras

Mudras refer to the hand gestures used in Bharatanatyam to convey a specific meaning or emotion. There are over 50 different Mudras in Bharatanatyam, and each Mudra has a specific meaning or significance. The Mudras are used to convey everything from simple actions like drinking water to complex emotions like love and anger. The dancer must have a good understanding of the Mudras and their meanings to effectively convey the story or theme of the dance.

Dashavtar

In Bharatnatyam, Dashavatar refers to a sequence of ten sequential dance movements that depict the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu in Hindu mythology. The word “Dasha” means ten and “Avatar” means incarnation.
